Writing a few words about someone
When you sit down to write about someone you love, the blank space can feel impossible. You want to do them justice, and that pressure can freeze you. The good news is that you do not have to sum up a whole life in one go.
Start with one memory
Set the life story aside for a moment. Pick a single, small memory and write that down. A morning, a habit, a phrase they used. One true detail says more about a person than a page of general praise.
Write the way you talk
You are not writing a speech or an obituary. Write the way you would tell a friend about them. Short sentences are fine. Plain words are fine. Warmth matters far more than polish.
Let others fill the gaps
You do not have to include everything, because you are not the only one writing. Say your piece, leave room, and let the people who knew them add theirs. Together it becomes fuller than anything one person could manage alone.
